Hi Sk8 Films 2013 • September 21 + 22
Call for submissions
We are excited to announce the Hi Sk8 Films 2013 series!
RULES AND INFO FOR SUBMISSIONS:
A panel of jurors will select 5 to 10 short form films to be premiered in the Doris Duke Theatre at the Honolulu Museum of Art.
Submission deadline: August 15, 2013
• Films should be 10 to 20 minutes long. *
• Films may showcase anything related to skateboarding in Hawai‘i, a parameter that may be interpreted broadly.
• Films will not be discriminated against for things deemed “obscene” (i.e. profanity, vandalism, blood, beer guzzling, etc.) but highly excessive degrees of illicit content (full frontal nudity, drug/alcohol abuse, etc.) should be avoided.
• Films must not have been previously released in live showings or through online formats.
*Some exceptions can be made, at the discretion of the curator. If you think your project may exceed this time limit, e-mail the address below to plead your case.
For consideration, directors must submit their film(s) by August 15, 2013, in an electronic online format to the email listed below, via youtube.com or vimeo.com, using a password-protected/private link. If the director has concerns about issues online submission may create (such as compression, formatting, etc.) arrangements can be made to submit a hard copy. Selected films will need to be submitted at least one week prior to the premiere on a DVD.
Selected films will be shown at the prestigious Honolulu Museum of Art. The museum will help to promote and market the series. Selected directors will receive a small monetary sum as compensation (amount to be determined). Most importantly, this festival provides a chance to inspire Hawai‘i’s skateboarding community and to educate the public about this unique art form as it intersects with the medium of film.
